The AJA specifically called on both the ruling and opposition parties to recognize their shared responsibilities and work together for the greater good of the country. Stressing the importance of dialogue, the statement noted that communication and integration are essential in overcoming division and conflict.
The association further stated that more than 30 member countries will continue to observe South Korea’s democratic progress while gathering additional signatures in support of the country’s democratic stability.
Meanwhile, South Korea is awaiting a crucial ruling from the Constitutional Court on the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol. The court’s verdict, expected in the coming days, will determine whether Yoon is permanently removed from office or reinstated.
If the court upholds the impeachment by the National Assembly, a snap presidential election must be held within the next 60 days. If dismissed, Yoon will return to his duties as president.
Amid this uncertainty, the AJA reiterated the importance of responsible leadership and urged South Korea’s political forces to focus on national stability, ensuring that the country remains a beacon of democracy in the region.
